National Library of Ireland Flickr Showcase

There is something unexpected about the NLI’s Flickr collection. Like a lot of record repositories, the ephemera, or transient material has become the basis of the overall online photographic steam. These printed ephemera are often beautiful by themselves but because they do not fit into or belong to other collections, they can often be disregarded.

The NLI online Flickr collection includes adverts, posters, business, education and travel related images. Alongside their other photographic images on the Flickr stream, they provide a wonderful visual record.

The Flickr stream can be seen HERE and can be viewed by themed album. For local historians the images can provide good context to the exploration of Irish towns and streetscapes, shopping, travel and clothing.
