We all have a story in us. My little friends in Heritage in Schools have been recording their stories – their teacher’s name, their favourite things, and people in their family. I’ve been recalling that first day at school too and remember how I gripped the handle on my green leather school bag. We played with pipe cleaners and coloured and everything seemed much bigger than it is now.
Over the years collections of old school texts, photos, books and scraps of paper provide the backdrop to a do-it-yourself memoir. It’s important to remember those early years, even if we have to rely on the recall of someone else to list a favourite toy or game, a favourite bedtime story, blankie or doll. We all started out somewhere.
