Funerary Monuments of Co. Galway

Galway County Council's Heritage Office in conjunction with its partners has recently released a suite of graveyard resources. These are of interest to local communities working in heritage, as well as genealogists and local historians.

Supported by Galway Rural Development with LEADER funding the training and informational benefit of the online tutorials is immense.

From care and conservation to best practice recording of headstone information, the recordings offer a further glimpse into the importance of records 'on the landscape', that is, funerary monuments, the art associated with their motifs, and local stonemasons who expertly crafted elegant memorials to the dead.

You can see these tutorials at the Galway Community Heritage website along with other county-related material by heritage experts and local heritage groups.
